Bob Helenius

Construction Quality Specialist

In 1976, after more than a decade in NYC commercial construction, Bob established Interior Alterations. Shortly thereafter, Bob and Ben Baxt met and collaborated on the construction of a small pediatrician's office. This started a 30-year relationship which evolved to focus on the alteration and rehabilitation of 19th century townhouses. At the beginning of the partnership, townhouse renovation was a new concept. There were very few contractors with experience handling the issues unique to 150-year-old buildings. Together, Bob and Ben learned the nature of 19th-century residential construction. Little by little, Bob assembled a remarkable team of tradespeople and craftspeople, and Interior Alterations became one of the most sought-after contractors in Brownstone Brooklyn.

When Bob retired from contracting, Ben and Michael knew his years of experience and hard-earned knowledge was too valuable to be left unused. About 2007, Bob joined the firm and continues to provide field observations and insight to our architects and construction teams. His keen eye and expertise provide capabilities that are rare in residential architecture.
