Since many of our parlor floor layouts are emphasizing an open floor plan and unobstructed site lines, designing coat closets into small nooks has become a fun exercise in space efficiency. This transitional Carroll Gardens townhouse project utilized the space under the stair (all of it!) as an all-purpose drop area. The sloped ceiling of the coat closet called for a hanging rack that is actually made for recreational vehicles to keep all the hangers in place. Even the smallest area was used for a pull out drawer while still maintaining the proportions of the applied wood paneling. Next to the storage areas, there is even a powder room. Tucking everything neatly under the stair allows the rest of the floor plan to be very open.
