This 1840s Gothic Revival home came to us in excellent condition, with many original details – including weight and chain Gothic Revival windows – intact. Located on a quaint Brooklyn Heights Place, the home is a living relic of times past. Our goal was to update the interior layout while paying respect to the building's history.

The original kitchen was cramped to the point of being dysfunctional. By reinforcing parlor floor joists, we were able to accommodate a modern family kitchen. with plenty of space. We relocated the moldings, floor borders, and introduced sliding pocket doors to preserve and replicate historic details.

We repurposed an original cooking fireplace to accommodate a Scandinavian woodstove and wood storage. The new fireplace became an interesting centerpiece in the garden-level den.
